Accolade

September 10, 2008

I included this one was because I wasn’t aware of the second definition before and I think that it’s sort of cool.

ACCOLADE – n. 1 something granted as a special honour or in recognition of merit.  2 a ceremonial touch on a person’s shoulder with a sword at the bestowing of a knighthood.

This is a painting by Edmund Blair Leighton c. 1901 that is called The Accolade.  It is actually quite beautiful.
